All of our counselling interns have completed academic requirements of their degrees in Social Work, Counselling Psychology, Child and Youth Care or a comparable field of study. They are supervised under one of our registered clinical team to complete their required counselling experience to obtain their degrees and will see a range of clients within their scope of practice. Each intern will come to practice with difference prior professional and educational experience that will inform who they will be working with at Burn Bright Counselling.

As a part of the interns’ degree requirements and their clinical supervision, they will be receiving direct feedback from their supervisor during their internship. In order to provide the highest quality of feedback and as per degree requirements, interns are required to record (video or audio) some of their sessions. These recordings are only viewed by the Intern and their Clinical Supervisor. All recordings are stored and kept within privacy laws and are destroyed after supervision is complete. You are not required to agree to having your sessions recorded and are able to revoked your consent at any time during your therapeutic support.

My name is Bryanna Cassidy, pronouns she/ they. I am a queer, neurodivergent student counsellor of mixed European descent, living as an uninvited settler on the traditional territories of the Lekwungen – speaking peoples (The Songhees, Esquimalt and W̱SÁNEĆ nations).

I have been working in community care for the past five years, supporting children, youth and families from a variety of backgrounds and cultures. I feel so inspired by peoples’ unique outlooks on life, and hold so much respect for the creative ways that they all find to stay alive and keep themselves safe. I believe that everyone is doing the best that they can, and that resistance is always present in the face of oppression.

I’m excited you’re here! Some of what you might expect from our time together include an active implementation of anti-oppressive, trauma-informed, and strengths-based perspectives. I love to draw on the natural creativity of others with the use of art, nature, and storytelling wherever possible.

Some, but not all, of the topics we might be able to navigate together include: experiences along the asexual and aromantic identity spectrums, sexual and gender identity, life transitions, anxiety, post-traumatic growth, relationship with food, exercise & body, and sex, dating & relationships.

I am the Clinical Director of Burn Bright Counselling. Prior to starting Burn Bright Counselling in 2021, I had been working with youth and families through non-profit organizations for nearly 10 years, specializing in mental health, family relationships, substance use and LGBTQ2S+ counselling. I am a Registered Social Worker and graduated with my Master’s Degree in Social Work from the University of Victoria and am committed to continued learning and growing as a practitioner.

I strive to create a safe space for teens, parents and adults to feel comfortable in bringing their authentic self to the counselling space in order to further explore the connection to themselves and their healing process.

I hold a BA and am nearing completion of my MA in Child and Youth Care. For the past 4 years I have been working as a Youth and Family Outreach worker in community, and have gained so much from all of the youth, parents, and community partners I have engaged with. I also hold experience running groups and community programs, working with gender diverse youth and their families, providing harm reduction support, crisis response work, and art and land based research groups in community.

No matter what position I find myself in, I approach my work through a two-eyed seeing framework, holding both western modalities and Indigenous ways of knowing, doing, and being close to my heart. I would describe my practice as decolonial, person-centered and strengths based, and I include modalities such as narrative therapies, emotion focused therapies, and solution focused therapies. I strive to meet people where they are at, and work alongside them in a good way while holding up their strength and dignity. We both have a lot to learn from each other, and I always want to honour where you come from, and where you have been.

As a queer and trans person, I am deeply committed to the well-being of LGBTQ2S+ community and families. I centre gender-affirming approaches in my practice that create room for exploration, uncertainty, ambivalence, and gender joy. I am passionate about working alongside trans, non-binary, and questioning youth as well as their family members, including parents, grandparents, and siblings. I also enjoy working with queer and trans parents and/or queer folks considering growing their family.

My lived experiences and intersecting identities have given me both privilege and non-privilege, which I continually reflect on when connecting with people from all walks of life. As a non-religious, Canadian-born Caucasian person, I hold dominant cultural identities in areas such as religion, Indigenous heritage, and national origin. As a gay woman, I also navigate non-dominant identities and challenges related to sexual orientation and gender. My journey includes lived experiences as a sex worker, a traumatic brain injury survivor, and an unhoused youth. These experiences fuel my passion for destigmatizing these identities on both individual and societal levels. While I will never assume that my experiences mirror yours, I hope it’s helpful to know that I may share some common ground with you. I will meet you with openness, understanding, empathy, and genuine curiosity.

I am a Registered Social Worker having graduated from the University of Victoria and am committed to continued learning for as long as this brain allows. I gained experience working in non-profit organizations, providing education and resources in sexual health, harm reduction, and crisis response. Each individual’s perspective on the world is a kaleidoscope of experiences forever moving and changing. This is why I ground my work in a holistic, anti-oppressive, and trauma-informed framework. As each of our kaleidoscopes is unique, so too are our healing journeys - I work to weave together tools from various modalities like Dialectical Behavioural Therapy, Narrative Therapies, and Emotion-focused therapies

As a therapist, I am dedicated to walking alongside you on your journey, working with the strengths you already possess to flourish as your best self. With an abundance of generosity and warmth, I bring a sense of humor and levity to our sessions, knowing that even through the darkest of times, there is space for light.

Therapy should be accessible for everyone, and I hold space for all identities and experiences by working from an anti-oppressive, decolonized, and queer theory standpoint that seeks an inclusive, affirming, and socially just environment. My unlearnings have gifted me a lesson in deconstructing binary thinking and so-called normative assumptions related to gender and sexual orientation, holding queer theory close to my heart in supporting my clients to explore and express themselves as authentically as they wish.
